For someone that doesn't talk to my extended family, who lives a life that would not be approved by them anyways (read: gay), I have an odd amount of filial piety. I'm not sure where it came from-- perhaps my exploits through various religious systems, perhaps my own desire to be remembered after my death-- but I do feel like I have a certain obligation that I must remember my ancestors and retell their stories.

In terms of my own ancestry, I am a rather typical example of a hodge-podge of white American ethnicities. Within the United States, my family has primarily been concentrated in Northeast Indiana and Michigan. Countries my ancestors have come from include the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Spain, and Puerto Rico.
